The Kroger Company, or simply Kroger, is an American retail company that operates supermarkets and multi-department stores throughout the US. It is a Consumer Staple sector and that sector can find buyers when traders are expecting a recession. The rationale is that certain basic products are still bought, even as consumers cut back on bigger, discretionary item.
Over the last 15 years from September 29 through to November 11 Kroger has gained 14 out of 15 times for an average gain of 6.04% and a maximum gain in 2009 of 14.22%. So, if the US is heading towards an early 2024 recession is the Kroger Co worth checking out as a consumer staple stock.
